Trudy C asked:

Hello from SO TX.. I would like to know if anyone out there has SOLAR PANELS on their home?
I have a 850 sq ft. house. I called Austin to a company that offers panels and installation. The cost $18,000.00, for 10 panels . The rep said we would save about 21 to 25% on our electric bill /mo. We use approximately 980 kw/mo. Our bill is around $140.00 / mo…I really don’t think that’s a good enough savings. We figure it would take 25 years to recoup our investment.
And where we live in TX it does not offer any incentives. The gov. allows you a $2000.00 tx break.

Question posted courtesy of: Claude

water_skipper asked:

Here’s a little idea I though might help everyone out in Iraq a little: How about if the US mass produces solar panels that are small enough to carry (maybe one foot by three feet) that have a regular power outlet on them to the Iraqis? We could send convoys to the people waiting in line to buy gas and give each person one free solar panel. Why?
1. A lot of people are buying gas to run generators for air conditioning, not to fuel vehicles.
2. It would help reduce the gas lines if people only needed gas for cars instead of their generators too.
3. It would help reduce the fighting over the power grid if people didn’t need the grid for their own electrical power.
My theory is, once every family in Iraq has enough of these panels that they don’t even care about the power grid (during the daytime anyway) it would be much easier to fix the power grid. Maybe these solar panels could even connect to and add to the power grid.

Question posted courtesy of: Roberta

Sam asked:

a) i’d like to get a solar panel to make this thing i saw in popular science, it was a bag that had a solar panel in the side (you just attach it with grommets into a clear vinyl pocket you make. its for charging elecronics and stuff) and i was wondering what kind i should look at, do they come flexible? can i get them on ebay? what kind of wattage should i look for (btw it also had a little voltage regulator and stuff to make a little usb in your bag) so any info on that!
b) i was thinking about like putting solar panels on my roof, where can i look into that, is that a good choice, has anyone done it, how did it work out? thank you, just curious

Question posted courtesy of: Jeff
