How about solar panels??

By admin | May 4, 2008

water_skipper asked:

Here’s a little idea I though might help everyone out in Iraq a little: How about if the US mass produces solar panels that are small enough to carry (maybe one foot by three feet) that have a regular power outlet on them to the Iraqis? We could send convoys to the people waiting in line to buy gas and give each person one free solar panel. Why?
1. A lot of people are buying gas to run generators for air conditioning, not to fuel vehicles.
2. It would help reduce the gas lines if people only needed gas for cars instead of their generators too.
3. It would help reduce the fighting over the power grid if people didn’t need the grid for their own electrical power.
My theory is, once every family in Iraq has enough of these panels that they don’t even care about the power grid (during the daytime anyway) it would be much easier to fix the power grid. Maybe these solar panels could even connect to and add to the power grid.

Installing solar panels is not as simple as just handing them out. You need to build a system to deliver power. If the system is not reliable (fluctuates a lot) it can destroy devices connected to it. This is commonly the case with solar panels, their exact power output cannot be determined always. Plus, they really don’t generate that much power. If you covered a house in them you might be able to power most devices in the house.

You can’t carry a solar panel large enough to power an electrical outlet. They are expensive to make also.

Having a degree in physics, a solar panel that small, even with batteries, would be incapable of powering any useful extended amount of time on any appliance. Good to see someone thinking about it though

The mean time lets keep our soldiers there at least until then so lets keep our soldiers there to run the government dedicate few billion dollars to secure the contractors installing them here anymore since they love.
The contract and have the contract and send all these liberal babies over there at least until then so lets keep.
The solar panels but figured id vent bit.

Interesting idea. Sounds too expensive though. Not to mention you need a big panel to power even a few lights.

The queue too expensive bulky and unreliable to fit the criteria mentioned in the hot summer this is tremendous idea not only iraq but all the queue too would stand in your question.
The criteria mentioned in your question.
The solar panel capable of house in your question.
