      They actually cost a ton and you have to maintain a dozen batteries. Over a long period of time the energy savings pays it off but it may take up to 10 years.

      Photovoltaic cells are very poor at converting solar energy into electricity-about 15% at best. Compare with photosynthesis is about 1% while concentrating solar right now is 35%.

      For homeowner these are notoriously poor investments that may change someday but not anytime soon consider solar thermal water heating it costs less is less complicated and rebates it costs less is none and rebates it would be more like none and rebates it.
      The payback is none and no without government tax incentives and the short answer is none and the short answer is none and the payback is much quicker.
