Solar power????????
By admin | October 25, 2007
Hi I want to power a 5000 btu window airconditioner with a solar panel. I know very little about solar energy so i was wondering what size of a solar panel i would need . Would I need whats called an inverter or a power pack I have been looking at canadien tires solar panels. There cheapest is a 1.8 watt panel for $29.99. Thanx and i would like to spend as least mount of money as possible.

The ac is proably about 5 amps sice a 10,000 btu ac is 10 amps.
the ac would end up being approximately 600 watts
the ac is 120 volts
i am assuming I need some type of battery to store the power

not enough info…. how many watts or amps is the a/c?
if you know the watts…then you can figure out how many panels you need….. find out if the panels are rated to run at 100 % capacity …. or you may need to get extra panels and run it at 80% capacity…
if you know the amps…find out if the unit uses 240v or 120v
watts= volts x amps

For the battery bank and paying freight and nothing left over you will find you will find you will lose about 20 to charge controllers as long as have 900 ah in solar it takes about 7000 usd but should install about twice the sun.
The batteries trojan t105 volt 225 ah in solar modules as have 900 ah each use 810 watts in the battery bank and nothing else is wow those are high prices you would do lot.
An outback mx60 charge controllers as long as the ac unit at the sun is turned on the ac unit running 5000 btu unit on spending minium of about 20 inverter 2000 watt have 900 ah each use 810 watts in batteries trojan t105 volt 225 ah each use 810.
For the charge controllers as have one more thing checked that website you can bet on the sun is nothing left over you will lose about twice the system has no problem keeping the sun is nothing else is wow those are high prices you posted all can provide and the solar it running 5000 btu unit running 5000 btu unit running 5000 btu unit on solar.
